About Operatives

Built to fix procurement
for the practices that matter most

Small and mid-size healthcare practices run on thin margins and tight teams. Every dollar misspent on supplies and every hour wasted on manual ordering is a dollar and an hour that should be going toward patient care. We built Operatives to fix that.

The real cost

Procurement isn't a back-office task.
It's a business-critical function.

In most clinical practices, supply procurement represents 25–40% of operating costs. Yet it's routinely handled manually, reactively, and without a complete picture of what's being spent, with whom, and at what price.

💰

Cash flow impact

Over-ordering ties up cash in inventory that sits on shelves for months. Under-ordering triggers emergency purchases at full price. Neither is visible until it's already cost you.

📉

Hidden cost leakage

Most practices have no idea if they're paying contracted rates, if better prices exist elsewhere, or if their staff is buying off-contract items out of convenience. The leakage is invisible and ongoing.

🧪

Supply quality and care quality

The cheapest supplier isn't always the right one. Substituting for the wrong gloves, the wrong suture, or the wrong instrument affects outcomes. Quality guardrails need to be built into the procurement decision — not added as an afterthought.

🏥

Patient outcomes downstream

When the right supplies aren't available at the right time, procedures get delayed, quality of care drops, and patients bear the cost. Procurement is the upstream decision that determines everything downstream.

What we saw

No one had the full picture

We spent time inside clinics — dental offices, veterinary practices, medical offices — watching how procurement actually happens. What we saw was consistent: a capable, dedicated team doing their best with disconnected tools.

Orders placed through one vendor portal, then another, then a phone call to a rep. Prices accepted at face value because there was no easy way to compare. No visibility into what was ordered last month, no benchmark against what other clinics were paying, no system to flag when a contract discount was being missed.

And critically: no holistic view. Not across vendors. Not across locations. Not across time. Each order was a one-off transaction with no intelligence built on top of it. Years of procurement data sitting in PDFs and email threads, untouched.

Enterprise health systems have procurement departments, GPO contracts, and vendor management software. Small and mid-size practices have a spreadsheet and a phone number.

That asymmetry is the problem Operatives exists to close.

How we built it

We consulted the people who know procurement cold

Before writing a line of code, we spoke to clinic operators, office managers, group practice administrators, and vendor sales reps. We talked to procurement specialists who had spent careers inside healthcare supply chains — people who understood GPO contracts, vendor negotiation tactics, compliance requirements, and the specific economics of running a dental, veterinary, or medical practice.

We learned that the problem isn't just efficiency. It's context. A good procurement decision requires knowing your contract terms, your preferred vendors, your compliance constraints, your usage history, and the real-time price landscape across competitors — all at once. No single person can hold all of that in their head for every order.

That's what AI is uniquely suited to do. And that's exactly what we built Operatives to be: the layer of intelligence that holds all of that context, applies it to every order, and acts on your behalf — with your approval.

Our mission

Cost · Quality · Outcomes

We align every procurement decision with three things: the lowest verified cost, the right supply quality, and the patient outcome that depends on both. Not just cheaper — smarter. Not just automated — optimized for what your practice is actually trying to achieve.

For the practice

Lower operating costs, less staff time on admin, and a clear view of every procurement dollar.

For the team

Less time navigating vendor portals and more time doing the clinical and operational work that matters.

For the patient

Right supplies available when needed, sourced at the right quality, so care is never compromised.
